Kingston Food Policy Council

Purpose

The Council is working to fulfill the main purposes identified in the Food Policy Council framework report, which are to:

Serve as a forum for discussing food issues
Assess the community food system in KFL&A
Inform and influence food and food-related policies and programs

Vision

The Council’s vision stems from the Food Charter vision:

Kingston, Frontenac and Lennox & Addington are healthy, food secure communities where:

Food is recognized as a basic human right
A just food system ensures all members of our community have access to adequate, healthy, safe, affordable and culturally appropriate food
An ecologically and economically sustainable food system thrives
A strong relationship exists between our rural and urban communities which supports and advocates for our regional food system

Roles

Education/Coordination- foster dialogue and enhance connections between sectors in the food system.
Assessment- identify food system needs
Policy- inform and encourage changes in policy to support a healthy food system in KFL&A
